When you visit Japan, what is the first thing pops up in your mind? Cosmetics, pharmacy, or food?

I guess in most of Asian people would be the first two and food for other foreigners. Geographically relation leads the importing products from nearby countries and makes people get used to using them. However, the tariff rises the selling price, which makes people want to buy a huge amount of them when traveling to those countries.

To me, life goods is important while food is much more than just important. It fulfills your hunger and gives you a fantastic moment of enjoining it.

And here I introduce you, #串鳥本店



This is an #Izakaya, a typical restaurant where people will go for dinner or a drink after work. Most of izakaya look tiny  and some of them might have to stand when eating, which is called #立食 (pronounce as lishih). Roast meat and alcohol are two significant ones and must ordered. The average age of the customers here are elder than I. One of a man sitting next to me is already 64. 




You may find the place in a round with some corners and the staffs are standing inside. They serve your table and play as a role of chef simultaneously. If you are ready they will be happy and always by your side to order and help.


You may ask for picture menu and the original menu is as follow:



  • Price includes tax and for one stick

  • Beverage is at the reverse side of the menu


Couple skewers I have ordered are as follow, the one with * are my favorites: 



It is no doubt a small and tiny space with narrow aisle. You have to move your seat if someone comes in or goes out. Hangers are right at the upper position after you for hanging up your coat and bags. 

When they serve alcohol, small amount of it will leak out of the glass. You may pour it back to your glass. It is kind of a tradition called 升酒 (pronounce as shenchu). 

  1. Right after you settle down, the staff will provide you a towel for hand cleaning.

  2. If you order a glass of alcohol, they will take out a glass in front of your and pouring as much as they can even leaking out to the dish under it.

  3. You may drink a small amount of it in your first sip.

  4. Then pour back the alcohol on your dish and mopped the glass and dish with your towel to show your respect.




Chicken | coke crisp chicken chopped with green onions between

*Chicken wing | crispy like fried chicken with super soft and juicy meat inside 



Tenderloin Steak | around 5 thick slices of beef in a single stick. Tender and soft. A perfect mixture of grease and lean meat.




*Asparagus wrapped in pork | the vegetable makes the gease of pork taste harmoniously 

*Chicken Cartilage | small amount of meat sticked on the cartilage riches the texture

Chicken Gizzards | hard without fishy smell

*Chicken Skin | crispy and rich in fat 




In short, 串鳥本店 is a place you can experience local eating atmosphere and taste traditional skewers with reasonable price. Meats are in good quality and the skills of chef is outstanding.
